Hi! My name is Gem Shandiin Labarta, and I am a citizen of the Navajo Nation and a potter. I received my BA in Art History and Minor in Native American Cultures from California State University, Puvungna (Long Beach) and currently live in Baltimore, Maryland with my English Bulldog, Juicy. I have been making pottery for almost 15 years, and am so grateful for the art. I love to create functional pieces that can be used daily, without sacrificing the beauty in the everyday object while beginning to explore Navajo motifs and designs (keep your eyes peeled for those!!).
